Does Weight Matter?

When you are talking about your electric guitar, it does. The weight of a guitar has a lot to do with the kind of wood the guitar is made from, although body shape and type do play a part as well. The type of wood a luthier chooses to construct a guitar greatly affects the tone quality of the instrument. For our EMW-22 Electric guitar line, our team chose a 3 piece alder body with a North American Maple neck. In addition, some of our guitars have a fret board option of East Indian Rosewood.
Alder has long been the standard wood for this body style for good reason. The weight is in the midrange and it produces a full bodied sound with good sustain. The average range for guitars of this body style are between 7.5 and 8 pounds.
Now that we have been able to catalog our hand made guitars, we found that ours are definitely falling in that range! So far they are weighing in between 7lbs 8oz and 8lbs 2oz. We do have one heavyweight weighing in at 8lbs 8oz!

If you have a weight preference, we can do our best to match you up with your preferred body/neck choice. Just contact us and we can work with you to get you what you are looking for. We have a full service luthier on our team, so we can also float your tremolo if you prefer. Contact us at info@MoralesCG.com or you can use the contact page on our site.
